The windswept water park of Typhoon Lagoon has opened to guests today after its refurbishment.
Typhoon Lagoon, the park which is themed to look like a typhoon has just turned a tropical paradise upside down, is back. The view of the HMS Tilly proudly sitting on top of the volcano is available for guests to enjoy while sitting on the beach in front of the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool while sipping a cocktail from an outlet such as Let’s Go Slurpin’.
Spring is arriving as Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon reopens today after its four-month annual refurbishment. Guests were welcomed back to the water park this morning at 10am, which is home to attractions such as Cush ‘n’ Gush, Mayday Falls and Gang Plank Falls.
For the past few years, the opening of Typhoon Lagoon has meant the closure of Walt Disney World Resort’s other water park, Blizzard Beach. The last chance for riding the magic at Blizzard Beach was yesterday, as it is closed from today to begin its annual refurbishment programme. This appears to be a post-covid keep in business practice for the Resort now, which operates with only one water park open at any time during the year.
For the last two years, the parks have operated on the following schedule:
2022
2 January: Typhoon Lagoon opens; Blizzard Beach closes
13 November: Blizzard Beach Opens; Typhoon Lagoon closes
2023
19 March: Typhoon Lagoon opens; Blizzard Beach closes
6 November: Blizzard Beach Opens; Typhoon Lagoon closes
The parks have completely different vibes, with Blizzard Beach celebrating winter in the sun with a ski lift transporting riders up to the fastest water attractions. Conversely, Typhoon Lagoon it’s all about the summer vibes, themed to serve as a tropical destination getaway which was struck by a typhoon hence the whimsy of placing the boat atop a mountain.
Typhoon Lagoon typically achieves a higher footfall of guests, but this is largely due to the seasonal footfall, opening months and Floridian weather. The water parks are closed when the temperature outside drops, usually around the 50F / 13C mark, which can happen between November and February.
Typhoon lagoon will be open from 10am – 5pm this opening week (from 17th March until 22nd March inclusive). Starting on Saturday 23rd March Typhoon Lagoon will be open 10am – 6pm.
